* Kids sports – parents usually take pictures when their kids are playing, but those snapshots are not the quality that would really excite them unless they get a random good shot by accident. What about if you staged the shot of a kid jumping off one of those little trampolines and catching a ball with arm fully extended? Of course, the ball is already strategically placed in the glove to look authentic.

If you set up your props and get a kid to “demonstrate” the action as you shoot, don’t you know that parents will see what is going on and be drawn to your “stage”, wanting their own son or daughter to have their photo taken?

Baseball and softball are not the only sports, but use your imagination about how to set up a great looking action shot in whatever sport is going on at the moment. And there is always a picture day for that sport when parents are taking the normal shots. Just be a bit more creative and you will have loads of folks who are begging you to take their money for one of those shots.

Another idea for presenting the finished photo is to use an online service that will print the photo as some type of magazine cover, such as a sports magazine.

* Pet photos -  This is another area where you can use your imagination to set yourself apart from the crowd. Pet owners are even more willing to part with their money when it involves their “baby”.

You will just need a couple of inexpensive props like baskets and blankets, or even fun doggy clothing to get those special shots that pet owners will love.

You can earn extra money if you offer a framing service, too. You can send your digital prints off to a service like MPix. They will be delivered to your customer ready to hang and you had to do nothing except shoot the photo and do a little photoshop post processing.

*Graduations - Think of all the places kids and people graduate from. You don’t have to be tied to the traditional where the pros are gathering (ie High School and College graduations). Kids also graduate from preschool, elementary school, and middle school. Adults graduate from vocational and technical schools.

And you could even contact the local dog training clinic and take pictures of successful dog/owner graduations. You can come up with dozens, if not hundreds of opportunities to capture a significant moments.

*Photo Novelty Items – There is an online service at Zazzle.com where you can send your photos to have them put on clothing, mugs, mouse pads, and almost any other object. Offer your services to family reunions and anniversary parties. Others who might be interested are office groups who are preparing for a special event like a 5K run or a community fund raiser. Tee-shirts are a hot item for these types of events.

*Newborn photo service – This is an awesome opportunity that has been untapped by photographers. Parents of newborns are some of the busiest people in the world. Simply get the word out that you are available “as needed”. That way, you can take informal snapshots for the growing family either before they leave the hospital, or after they get home. Most photos are taken with one parent or the other because one is needed to take the picture. But with your services,  both parents and the child can be in more of the pictures all together, and the parents have one less thing to try and figure out.
